V&A - Charles Robert Leslie

I visited the V&A museum whilst embarking on my Mirrors project. The theme mirrors led to the idea of the "selfie" culture and how people feel when they look in the mirror (hidden reflections)
Charles Robert Leslie's portraits drew my attention because the scenes and posture of women are linked to the idea of self reflection and vanity. It made me reflect on how similar/different women looking in mirrors to get dressed in the 60's is compared to this modern age. I made little sketches and then did an enlarged version in chalk pastel.
I see mirrors as a tool for destabilising our vision
