IN MY SKIN - AFTER ERIC NEHR
With reference and inspiration from Eric Nehr, this painting is meant to explore the ''hidden reflections we see in different skins''. I chose this image; originally a photograph, because it was very striking. This is one of the reasons I decided not to alter it when painting. However, this questions the originality and supplements oil paint brings to the photograph. I really appreciate the contrast in the foreground and background. The background has a harsh tone whiles the portrait displays a delicate individual.Furthermore creating this piece on a larger scale will have lead to a much stronger emotional impact on my audience. The recent killings of Albinos in Africa are beyond barbaric. The beauty of Albinos are hardly recognised and by painting this image I feel that it picks up on the incredible skin tones and skin defects they have.
In his skin he wins.
